A "Use" tax?

It seems that the sales and "use" tax has always been that way.
They call it a "use" tax because for some reason, you have to pay a tax to have the right to use something in New York State.
That sounds idiotic to me.

After you've worked and paid taxes on your income, the lords in Albany want you pay to use something you've purchased with your money that you worked for and already paid income tax on.
That sounds idiotic to me. Oh, I said that already.

When buying a car, they charge you the sales tax rate of your county of residence.
That kind'a ties you to the land, like a serf of old medieval Europe.

But the unfairness of this tax has been brought to light by internet shopping and "tax free" days in Pennsylvania.
If you buy something in Pennsylvania on tax free day, your expected to pay sales and use tax on it in New York.
That is just so idiotic.

So, why is New York State even levying a state sales tax anyway?

There is already a state income tax. Counties use the sales tax as revenue source because thats all they have.
I just don't understand the logic of the state giving a tax deduction for items on your state tax return, then charging a state sales tax on those items when you buy them.

Sounds idiotic. Oh, yea. I said that.

Sales and "Use" Tax?

This tax would qualify as another
"Money Grubbing" heading.
