The Ultimate in Money Grubbing
Nothing I've seen so far so illustrates the unfairness of taxation or the money grubbing tactics of our government as does the income tax on unemployment benefits.
If unemployment recipients were receiving benefits that equaled their former gross pay, then an income tax would be arguable. But weekly unemployment benefits are never as much as someone's former salary. Taxing unemployment benefits just adds insult to injury.
And, what's worse, is that the tax money is never deducted as the benefits are received. It's always at tax time when the recipient finds out that they owe tax money on their benefits. Then they wind up paying taxes in installments after\when\if ever they get back to work.
Excuse my harsh language, but I think that taxing unemployment benefits sucks! But, forget my little apology, I think our government should be apologizing to us for being such money grubbers!
You can ask/demand an apology from them, but you won't get one.
You should write to your legislators, and tell them to stop being such money grubbers by eliminating the tax on unemployment benefits.

So.... there's the poor working taxpayer at the ultimate end. They've lost their job. Whether by downturn in the economy, or re-organization, or business relocation, the sadness and uncertainty and fear are all the same.
So, what does our illustrious government do? Naturally, slap an income tax on unemployment benefits! Nothing I've seen so far so illustrates the unfairness of taxation or the money grubbing tactics of our government as does the income tax on unemployment benefits.
